Five Finalists Selected For 2004 U.S.
Olympic Team Trials

Anaheim, Houston, New Orleans, St. Paul/Minneapolis and San Jose are the five finalists to host the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for gymnastics on June 24-27, 2004.

"These five cities have demonstrated a significant commitment to USA Gymnastics and have represented the best interests of both organizations in their Trials bids," said USA Gymnastics President Bob Colarossi. "We are pleased with the level of interest in hosting the Trials and believe that all five of these cities are fully capable of hosting a superior event."

The call for bids on March 21 netted 30 interested cities, with 11 submitting official bids by the May 7 deadline. The final selection is expected in mid-June following site visits to each of the finalists.

"The talent level of the U.S. programs right now is at an all-time high," Colarossi said. "When you combine our talent pool with a great city synonymous for hosting top-notch events, these Olympic Trials can really showcase the medal potential of our athletes heading into the 2004 Olympic Games."

The Trials will be broadcast by NBC Sports, with the men's finals scheduled to air from 1-3 p.m. on June 26, 2004, the women's prelims from 8-10 p.m. on June 26, and the women's finals from 7-9 p.m. June 27.

Boston previously hosted the Trials in 1996 and 2000.
