Participation in the World University Games was brought forward by the College Gymnastics Association. When this event was removed from the schedule two years ago, the college coaches unanimously petitioned the MPC to have this event reinstated . A proposal was given to the MPC toward adding this competition to the USA Gymnastics schedule. Galimore outlined several roadblocks toward this goal, including time constraints, tight competition schedule, the NCAA start scores, lack of competitiveness, depth of team and money. Williams suggested that this would be an opportunity to fulfill the new President's directive by possibly earning some individual medals. Discussion led to the organization of a subcommittee consisting of Barry Weiner, Mark Williams, Doug Van Everen and Chris Waller. The committee will report back at the next conference call.V. Winter Cup Format
Discussion centered around adding gymnasts to the national team at Winter Cup. It would add to the team depth and give injured athletes or up-and-coming gymnasts an opportunity to make the team in between U.S. Championships. This would also supply a competition to observe the national team athletes' preparations for upcoming meets and the Winter Cup champion would receive an invitation to participate at the Visa American Cup.The top 3 non-national team athletes placing in the top 10 in the AA will be added unranked to the Sr. National Team, with basic living expenses paid, for a 6-month period.
