Langsley Photos

A superb book and a CD-ROM, both titled Gymnastics: the Art of Sport, have recently come out featuring a selection of Langsley's finest shots. This is on sale at the FIG Secretariat.

On November 15-17, 1996, the Executive Committee of the FIG will meet in Lausanne. On that occasion a ceremony will be held at which Yuri Titov, the current President of the FIG, will hand over his office to his successor, Bruno Grandi.

Judges Beware!
A number of judges received a warning following the last RSG World Championships in Budapest.
The lesson seems to have been of use since in the wake of the RSG Olympic competitions in Athens no cards, either yellow or red, were given out. The reason exemplary professional conduct on the part of the whole college of judges.
And, since good news never comes alone, we note that there were no 10.0's in Athens. This is something to which we are not accustomed at RSG events. There were no ties on the podium and no 10.0's in RSG.
This may well be because the judges were appointed by the FIG authorities according to established criteria specific to RSG.
Puerto Rico
The World Championships in San Juan were a success which has already become a reference for the FIG delegates. Reception, infrastructure, organization, protocol everything was just marvelous. The FIG offers good luck to Puerto Rico in its candidature to host the Olympic Games in 2004!
Medical Commission
It had been noted that many non-medical personnel (trainers, coaches, etc.) had been accredited as Medical Officers at several championships. The Medical Commission considers that it is a violation of the ethics of the FIG that federations ignored the health of the gymnasts.
Further, as a result of the public demonstrations of protesting against the size of the gymnasts last year in Canada, the Medical Commission proposed to investigate and make recommendations regarding anorexia in gymnastics.
Scientific Symposium
The subjects to be considered at the Scientific Symposium to be held in Berlin during the 1997 RSG World Championships have been established as follows:
- Advantages and risks from the medical, biomechanical, educational, and social points of view
- Development of a competition program for girls: evaluation and training methods
- Development of apparatus and security materials appropriate for the training of young gymnasts
