USA wins three gold medals at 1st Acrobatic Gymnastics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., May 10, 2007—The USA claimed three gold medals at the 1st Acrobatic Gymnastics International Tournament, May 3-6, in Gabravo, Bulgaria. In the age group competition, Ashley Hargis of Kearney, Mo., Chelcea Riegel of Holt, Mo., and Kristin Weidmaier of Holt, Mo., won the women’s group title, while Maren Focke of Rockville, Md., and Hannah Vires of Olney, Md., placed first in the women’s pair. Meghan Ball of Rockville, Md., Keisha Padello of Arlington, Va., and Erika Sundberg of Bethesda, Md., claimed gold in junior women’s group.
Hargis, Riegel and Weidmaier, all of Rising Star Acrobatic Gymnastics Club, earned scores of 28.267 and 27.500 in balance and dynamic, respectively, for a total of 55.767 to place first in the age group competition in women’s group. Tanova Tsveta, Danieva Ralitsa and Joana Vasileva of Bulgaria were second with Danielle Warren, Jade Allen and Charlotte McCarthy of Great Britain finishing third.
In the women’s pair age group competition, Xtreme Acro’s Focke and Vires won the gold medal with their total of 55.200 after scores of 27.600 in both balance and dynamic. Placing second were Great Britain’s Jemma Wood and Jessica Judge, and Bulgaria’s Teodora Asenova and Williyana Asenova were third.
The trio of Ball, Padello and Sundberg, also of Xtreme Acro, won the junior women’s group competition with a total of 83.900 (28.000 in balance, 27.667 in dynamic and 28.233 in combined). In second were Violeta Cvetkova, Desislava Asenova and Viktoria Kecheva of Bulgaria, followed by Germany’s Barbara Nub, Lisa Polster and Nina Seeh.
