Hall wins bronze medal in women’s tumbling at World Cup in Belgium

OSTEND, Belgium, June 30, 2007 – Yuliya Hall of Idaho Falls, Idaho, won a bronze medal in women’s tumbling at the trampoline and tumbling World Cup in Ostend, Belgium.

Kalon Ludvigson of Plano, Texas, just missed winning the second World Cup medal of his career by finishing fourth in men’s tumbling.

Russia’s Anna Korobeynikova, the reigning world tumbling champion, won the gold medal in women’s tumbling with a score of 69.00, followed by Great Britain’s Samantha Palmer in second at 68.10 and Hall in third at 66.70. Leanne Seitzinger of Stafford, Va., earned the highest World Cup finish of her career by placing fifth place at 63.20.

In men’s tumbling, Russia’s Andrey Krylov won the gold medal on a tie-breaker after he and China’s Wang Jiexu both earned scores of 77.70. Wang finished second, followed by Chinese teammate Pan Huanian in third at 75.20. Ludvigson’s score of 71.60 landed him in fourth.

2004 Olympic gold-medalist Yuriy Nikitin of the Ukraine topped the men’s trampoline field with a score of 40.70. In second and third, respectively, were Yasuhiro Ueyama and Masaki Ito, both of Japan. Chris Estrada of Lafayette, La., placed seventh with a score of 37.20.

Nikitin claimed his second gold medal of the competition with Ukrainian teammate Oleksandr Chernonos in men’s synchronized trampoline with a score of 49.10. Japan’s Ueyama and Tesuya Sotomura won silver and Russia’s German Khnychev and Anton Gonakov took bronze. Estrada and Ryan Weston of Chubbuck, Idaho, were seventh.

Rounding out the event champions were 2000 Olympic gold-medalist Irina Karavaeva of Russia in women’s trampoline and synchronized trampoline, and Natalia Chernova of Russia in synchronized trampoline.

Also competing for the United States were: Brittany Dircks of Orland Park, Ill., women’s trampoline; Michael Devine of Winnebago, Ill., men’s trampoline and synchronized trampoline; and Steven Gluckstein of Atlantic Highlands, N.J., men’s trampoline and synchronized trampoline.
