Sloan wins senior all-around at 2007 U.S. Classic

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., July 29, 2007—Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind., won the senior all-around title at the 2007 U.S. Classic in Battle Creek, Mich., and 2005 world floor exercise champion Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass., won three individual events. Rhegan Courville of Baton Rouge, La., claimed the all-around title in the junior division. The U.S. Classic was the final qualifying event for women’s artistic gymnasts to the 2007 Visa Championships, Aug. 15-18 in San Jose, Calif.
Sloan won the all-around with a score of 59.35, followed by Christa Tanella of Lucas, Texas, in second and Darlene Hill of Mt. Laurel, N.J., in third.
Sacramone won vault with a score of 15.20, balance beam with a 15.55, and floor exercise with a 15.15. 2006 world all-around silver-medalist Jana Bieger of Coconut Creek, Fla., claimed the uneven bars crown with a score of 15.25, and also finished second on vault.
In addition to her all-around title, Sloan placed second on bars, third on vault and balance beam, and tied for third with Katelyn Mohr of Lincoln, Calif., on floor. Tanella finished second on floor, while Hill placed third on bars. Shayla Worley of Orlando, Fla., was second on the balance beam.
In the junior division, Courville posted a 56.60 to win the all-around crown, followed by Samantha Shapiro of Los Angeles, Calif., in second and Mattie Larson, also of Los Angeles, in third. Courville also won beam with a 15.60, while Shapiro won bars at 14.75.
Alecia Musser of Colorado Springs, Colo., claimed the junior vault title with a score of 14.90, while Olivia Courtney of Orlando, Fla., and Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Mich., placed second and third, respectively.
On floor, Hallie Mossett of Los Angeles, Calif., posted the highest score of 14.45 to place first in the junior division, with Courville in second and Kamerin Moore of West Bloomfield, Mich., in third. Larson and Chelsea Davis of Lakeway, Texas, placed second and third, respectively, on bars. On beam, Wieber finished second and Moore and McKenzie Wofford of Round Rock, Texas, tied for third.

The 2007 Visa Championships, USA Gymnastics’ national championships, are Aug. 15-18 in San Jose, Calif. The U.S. champions for men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatic gymnastics are determined at the Visa Championships. Artistic gymnastics will be held at HP Pavilion at San Jose, and rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics are set for the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show, held in conjunction with the Visa Championships, will also be at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
