Five U.S. men qualify for all-around, event finals
at 2007 Pan Am GamesFor immediate release - July 14, 2007
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 14, 2007 – Guillermo Alvarez of Denver and David Durante of Garwood, N.J., both qualified to the finals for the all-around competition at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 15. In addition, five U.S. men advanced to the individual event finals on July 17.
The U.S. men who qualified for event finals are: Alvarez, floor exercise and parallel bars; Durante, still rings; Sean Golden of Camden, N.J., still rings; Justin Spring of Burke, Va., floor exercise, parallel bars and horizontal bar; and Todd Thornton of Houston, horizontal bar. Joey Hagerty of Rio Rancho, N.M., is the first alternate for the pommel horse.
Qualification to the all-around and individual event finals was based on performances during the team competition on July 14.
The men’s all-around competition is on July 15, with the women’s set for July 16. The individual event finals for both men and women are July 17. The competition is held at the Rio Olympic Arena.
