Gymnastics University Overview
Why
Education?
Our mission is to provide a program that will aid coaches,
instructors, officials, and administrators in the proper
development of athletes as well as ensuring a fun and
safe gymnastics experience for all involved. The University
allows us to work towards this mission by providing greater
educational opportunities and a standardized approach.
Education is an important tool that propels the sport
of gymnastics and elevates the professions of coaching,
teaching, officiating, and club/program management.

What is USA Gymnastics University?
USA Gymnastics University is a collection of educational
resources, courses, and a professional certification program.
Education and certification go hand-in-hand. Through education,
coaches, instructors, judges, and administrators are better
prepared and equipped to work in the world of gymnastics.
The certification program aims to organize the educational
offerings of USA Gymnastics University and provide a means
to achieve logical progressions, a well-rounded knowledge
base, and recognition of education and experience levels.
What does USA Gymnastics University include?
USA Gymnastics University is a work-in-progress. When
the University is fully developed, it will contain a
broad spectrum of educational resources, relevant and
timely sport specific updates - including discussion
forums, as well as current course/clinic information
and registration, and additional educational links.
To date, the structure of the certification program
has been defined and work is being done in the area
of curriculum and course development. Core pieces of
education are currently available (i.e. Safety Certification,
First Aid Basics, Preschool Fundamentals, various congresses,
clinics and workshops), and the final course for Level
1 Certification is scheduled to be available by the
end of 2008. Additional courses and other types of education
will continue to be added in coming years, allowing
for certification at higher levels.
Once
everything is in place, USA Gymnastics University will
provide:
- Tools and education for individuals new to the sport
and/or coaching
- Opportunities for experienced coaches and instructors
to review and continue to build upon their knowledge
and skill level
- The latest information in a variety of areas including
program rules, skill techniques, injury and health,
safety and more
- Opportunities to build knowledge in other areas
of gymnastics, sport management, sport science, and
business and leadership
