Shannon is the most decorated American gymnast, male or female, in history, having won more Olympic and World Championship Medals than any other American Gymnast. She has earned 7 Olympic Medals and 9 World Championship Medals since her Elite International debut in 1990. Her tally of five medals (2 Silver, 3 Bronze) at the 1992 Olympics was the most medals won by a US athlete. During her career, Shannon has won an astounding 58 International and 49 National competition medals and over half have been Gold A member of two Olympic Teams, Shannon led the "Magnificent Seven" gymnastics team to a first ever Team Gold Medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and, for the first time for any American gymnast, she won an individual Gold on the Balance BeamShannon has a B.B.A. in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from the University of Houston and is currently attending Boston College School of Law. In addition to her studies, she contributes an enormous amount of time to numerous charities and is proud to be an example for everyone, young or old, male or female that believes anything is possible with hard work, determination and professionalism. Shannon continues to work with a variety of charities including Special Olympics, Muscular Dystrophy, Alzheimer's disease, March of Dimes, Drug Free Youth, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Pediatric Aids Foundation. In 2005, Shannon became official Spokesperson for the St. Jude "Heroes" program.
Shannon has been inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame (2006), United States Olympic Hall of Fame (2005), the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame (2003) and she was the youngest Inductee into the Oklahoma Sports hall of Fame (2002). She is a three-time Sullivan Award nominee (1993, 1994 and 1995), an award honoring the top amateur athlete in the USA. Miller won the 1994 Dial Award, America's most coveted award for high school seniors, and at the USA Gymnastics Congress, she was named 1994 Athlete of the Year. Miller was the 1994 inaugural recipient of the Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Award. Also in 1994, Miller was named a Team Xerox Olympian. She was presented the Master of Sport Award, one of the highest honors one can receive in the sport, in September 1993 at the USA Gymnastics Congress. She was named the USOC SportsWoman of the Month for March and April 1993 and April 1994. Miller was one of four finalists for the Zaharias Award in 1992, 1993 and 1994.
Shannon remains involved with the sport of gymnastics on many levels. She is currently an athlete representative for the women's program at USA Gymnastics and continues to conduct balance beam clinics for young gymnasts across the country. Following her role as an analyst for MSNBC's coverage of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Shannon is now commentating both men's and women's artistic gymnastics for NCAA, Junior Olympic and National and International Elite competitions. Shannon recently enjoyed the opportunity to commentate for NBC's HDTV coverage of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece and is now hosting her own show, Gymnastics USA on CN8, the Comcast Network.
Shannon also speaks professionally about leadership, setting goals and overcoming obstacles to achieve success. She has helped people of all ages, in all walks of life, understand the secret to making their dreams come true.
